Rod Argent, born June 14, 1945, in St Albans, England, is a rock musician best known as the keyboardist, songwriter, and founder of the influential 1960s band The Zombies. His innovative keyboard work, particularly on the organ, defined the band’s sound, blending pop, jazz, and classical influences. Argent wrote several of The Zombies’ hits, including “She’s Not There” (1964), “Tell Her No” (1965), and the iconic “Time of the Season” (1968) from their seminal album *Odessey and Oracle*. The album, now considered a classic, initially saw modest success but gained a cult following over time.

After The Zombies disbanded in 1967, Argent formed the progressive rock band Argent in 1969, which achieved success with songs like “Hold Your Head Up” (1972) and “God Gave Rock and Roll to You” (later covered by Kiss). Known for his virtuosic keyboard playing, Argent’s style combined melodic pop with complex arrangements, influencing the rock and prog genres.

The Zombies reunited in the 1990s and continue to perform, with Argent leading alongside vocalist Colin Blunstone. He’s also worked as a producer and session musician, collaborating with artists like The Who and Andrew Lloyd Webber. In 2019, The Zombies were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, recognizing Argent’s enduring impact. He remains active, performing and recording with the band, with recent shows scheduled in 2024 and 2025.
