Bruce Welch OBE (born Bruce Cripps on November 2, 1941) is an English guitarist, songwriter, singer, producer, and businessman, best known as a founding member of the instrumental rock group The Shadows, the backing band for Cliff Richard. After growing up in Newcastle, he formed the skiffle group The Railroaders with his school friend Hank Marvin, and they moved to London to pursue music. In 1958, they joined the band that became The Shadows and went on to have a successful career, with Welch writing many hits. He also briefly left the band in the late 1960s to produce for other artists, including Olivia Newton-John, before rejoining The Shadows for reunion tours. He was awarded an OBE for his services to music.
