Bill Fellows was born in May 1957 in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. He trained as an actor at the Guildford School of Acting in the early 1980s, laying the foundation for a career spanning theatre, television, film, and even voice work in video games.
Fellows began his professional life on stage, where he built a strong reputation in British theatre. Notable roles include:
Mickey Johnstone in the West End production of Blood Brothers (a musical by Willy Russell), opposite Stephanie Lawrence. This role in a music-driven show highlights his early involvement with musical theatre, involving song and dance performances.
His theatre work, particularly in *Blood Brothers*, represents the most direct connection to music in his career, as the production features original songs like "Tell Me It's Not True" and requires actors to handle musical numbers alongside dramatic storytelling.
Fellows has been a prolific television actor since the 1980s, with over 100 credits. He gained prominence through long-running British series and international hits:
Coronation Street (2021–2024): Played Stu Carpenter, a chef and resident, for a three-year arc, earning widespread recognition in the UK.
Ted Lasso (2020–2023): Portrayed George Cartrick, a blunt football pundit and former manager, in 10 episodes. This role contributed to the show's ensemble winning a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Comedy Series in 2021.
Other key appearances include:
Downton Abbey (2010): As Mr. Coulson.
Broadchurch (2013): As farmer Tony Riggs.
Vera (2015): Detective series with Brenda Blethyn.
This Time with Alan Partridge (2019–2021): As Ted.
Recurring roles in Dream Team (1997–1998, 67 episodes)
Holby City (2002–2009)
Wolfbloo (2012–2013, 8 episodes).
Earlier TV work spans dramas like
The Monocled Mutineer (1986)
Heartbeat (1990s)
The Bill, and Casualty (1993–2025, multiple episodes).
Fellows has appeared in around 20 films, often in supporting roles:
